Hope you are well and ready to rock your world. The other day Cape Business Chamber introduced the idea of a speed network meeting to us. And that why I want to invite you to. I have asked a team of business people to help me invite a huge network of businesses in the southern Peninsula. And they are doing a great job. I know you have lots of business friends and ask that you do the same. Just forward this.

You are invited and welcome to attend the all the network meetings from 12 Feb 2009 between 10 and 11:00 at the Southern Right Hotel. All you need to do is bring your personality and a sales pitch that no one will ever forget. This pitch should be one minute long. Not longer.

Can you RSPV please before 9 Feb 2009. We can only accommodate 20 people.

I have also created an online business social network for all the business in the Southern Peninsula and your membership will make the place great. Come and share what you know and how you can make our lives easier. We will pay you if you do a great job of it ;-) Just join the online network here complete your business profile. Click here and join today.

By The Way: We will have a special meeting once a month where we can all share marketing tricks and how to use the internet. Dedicated trainers will provide free training and if you have a great skill to share then we will invite you.

The End

I did not feel like writing this letter but I must get it out of the way. Many told me that a b2b meeting did not work in Simon’s Town and I did not believe that. I was wrong. I only had Lizelle O’Callaghan reply to the previous mail. Thanks Lizelle. At one stage we were 14 friends meeting. Today I have to announce the end. Thanks for your time.  BTW: I am running a weekly free session at the Southern Right training people to use online communications. If you are interested call me at 021 786 4028 or 082 870 2004. Majestic

WHALES are majestic. They make a difference even if they are sometimes over the top because they change things. They never accept the Status Quo. No!

What are the Secret Ingredient That Makes WHALES WHALES?

The secret ingredient is the actual desire to make things happen. To take action, to believe that it’s worthwhile, to confront what feels like a risk but really isn’t. The secret ingredient is to ignore excuses, abandon procrastination and stop looking for proof.

The WHALES MANIFESTO

1. The greatest innovations appear to come from those that are self-reliant. Individuals who go right to the edge and do things worth talking about. Not solo, of course, but as instigators of a team. In two words: don’t settle.

2. The greatest community innovators do two things: they treat people with respect and they measure.

3. The greatest community leaders understand that people will resist change and that ‘no’ is the single easiest way to do that. This will mean that we need to educate willing WHALES to use technology to communicate and connect.

4. The greatest community leaders make info available to their community, not for themselves. These leaders get the community to connect and communicate for the better of the community.

5. There really isn’t much of a ‘quick fix’. It quickly becomes yesterday. The long run, on the other hand, sticks around for quite a while.

6. The internet doesn’t forget. And sooner or later, the internet will find out.

7. Every community leader is a marketer, even people, communities and organizations that don’t market. They’re just marketers who are doing it poorly.

8. Amazing communities receive rewards that more than make up for the effort required to be that good.

9. Mass taste is rarely good taste.

10) It’s foreseen that WHALES:

Contribute to the Simon’s Town idea bank.

Leave a legacy

Make Simon’s Town a better place.

Are publishers of Simon’s Town questions, answers and ideas.

Share relevant info on a timely basis with the community because it will empower an informed community.

They have a responsibility to the whaling community.

So, decide. Decide before the end of the day. If you reject the aphorisms above, replace them with your own. But don’t settle. That’s unforgivable.

WHALES are active contributors, innovators and leaders. There are people who are drive along in the bus. They are here but they only read what the WHALES have to say and there are people who don’t care.

Whales Are Always Moving Forward They are Majestic.

As business owners we have issues and we know that by default some things happen and some things don’t happen.

We can complain but as long as we are not involved I believe that we have no right to complain and criticise. The Simon’s Town Civic Association say that Simon’s Town businesses are not involved. And they want us to attend their meetings. This makes sense.

And I want to propose an idea. An idea that we discussed at this mornings business to business meeting.

Here are a few points that can help us get our minds around the business involvement into Simon’s Town issues.

  1. One of us attend the Simon’s Town Civic association meeting once a month. I don’t mind attending all these meetings but if there are business people who also want to attend then please leave a comment.
  2. I propose that the Simon’s Town Business Association meets once a quarter.
  3. As proposed, we share and discuss issues of mutual concern at an online forum. I have created such an online forum and you can go there by clicking here.
  4. The person who attends the Civic Meeting takes the issues reported at the online forum to the Civic meeting. And when done report back to all at the online forum.
  5. If you agree to the above and want to  stay on top of new issues reported then subscribe here.

Let’s kick start this and get the forum going.

The Simon’s Town business to business meeting was held this morning and great ideas were shared. Thanks for being there and making the meeting a great occasion.

  • Megan from Cape Point School of English told us about the range of products she offers. From cultural immersion to general English, even English and adventure.
  • Shelly from Art In Framing and her husband Eric are going from strength to strength. They have employed a professional framer and it seems that Eric is also more creative. They are also in the process of opening an Art Gallery. If you know any great artists make contact with Shelly at tel: 0217865952
  • Bev from Fragrance Of Flowers entertained us with her passionate approach to all things good. Flowers and people getting married. It’s always a good time to buy flowers and arrange an event with the help of Bev. Get hold of here at tel: 0823765099
  • Elmarie started a Holiday Home Management Company called LocalEye.co.za. If you know of any swallows or holiday home owners in need of a reliable person to do regular checks on their empty homes or any out of towners who would like to run their homes as self catering units contact Elmarie at 082 955 6464. Or send them to www.LocalEye.co.za

  • Mr. Hoosen our local and trusted plumber. He’s been around from 1972. A great man with lots and lots of advice. Today he told us that he’s busy repairing/replacing stolen copper pipes. Some absent homeowners pay dearly for water leaks that goes undetected. Contact Mr. Hoosen for your plumbing needs 0826769442
  • Johan Horak helps businesses to understand the Internet and how to use it. He will create your free website and for only R2495 teaches you how to use it. No further monthly fees. Nothing. And you can use your website for as long as you want. Read more here.
  • Well have the South African President in Simon’s Town on 5 September. It’s a great day for Simon’s Town as the President will visit the Navy for the first and last time. But it’s also a time for us to hang the flags out. We have such a lot to disagree about. Let’s have fun on this day while watching the activities in the streets and on our lovely blue bay. Thrish suggested you phone |Arne at 082 807 8073 to get some flags for the day.
